Questions on Diabetes

In an e-Alert I sent you last week ("Sugar in the Morning, Sugar in the Evening…" 9/4/02) I was pleased to introduce a new herbal product called Glucotor that helps manage blood sugar levels and additional health problems associated with diabetes.

I've received a large response from that e-Alert, including a number of questions sent in by HSI members. Glucotor was formulated by HSI Panelist Jon Barron, so I asked Jon to answer a couple of questions I received.

The first e-mail comes from an HSI member named Joshua who wrote: "Nowhere in this e-alert does it mention which type of diabetics were tested. Was it type 1 or was it type 2, as in most testing? My wife is a type 1 diabetic, and I would like to know if this formula would be effective in type 1 cases."

Jon's reply:

"It was tested on Type II diabetes. However, since it helps dramatically lessen how much sugar enters the body, and since it helps rebuild beta cells in the pancreas, it theoretically could be of some benefit in Type I diabetes too. It does not, though, address the underlying cause of Type I diabetes.

"Doing the whole Baseline of Health program, however, is likely to have much greater impact since it helps tremendously with autoimmune disorders, the primary suspected cause of Type I diabetes. And using digestive enzymes both with meals and between meals significantly reduces Circulating Immune Complexes, a primary contributing factor in autoimmune disorders.

"If you have not already done so, you might want to read 'Lessons from the Miracle Doctors,' which will explain the program in more detail. You can download a free copy at www.jonbarron.com"

Another HSI member named Jim had this question: "Re: Glucotor, can this be used as a preventative product? Over the last several years I notice my Glucose reading is on the edge or just over the edge of normal. It would seem this product could be one that pushes that range well back into normal."

Jon's response:

"YES! Absolutely. I actually think that's a much more important use of the product. I use one or two capsules a day myself whenever I eat high glycemic foods to smooth out the effect on the body."

These are just two of the many responses I received about the Glucotor e-Alert. To find out more about how Glucotor may be able to help balance your blood sugar, visit the Healing America web site (www.northernnutrition.healingamerica.com).

Meanwhile, my thanks to the many who have responded to the e-Alert, and to Jon for fielding these important questions.

To Your Good Health,

Jenny Thompson
