This Week In The HSI Forum

"Many of my friends including myself have been having memory lapses."

Sound familiar? That comment was posted by a member named Albert in an HSI Forum thread titled "Memory Loss." Albert says he's having a hard time remembering the names of people he sees on television (names he previously knew), and he goes on to ask, "Any suggestions as how to remedy this?"

A member named Jim has a suggestion. Jim writes: "That is the exact problem that I did have. Now I can place a name with most of the faces that I knew before. It almost has to be a result of 2000 milligrams of NOW fish oil I started taking every day, because that is all that I am doing different."

Fish oil has also been helpful for a member named Mari whose husband was diagnosed with probable Alzheimer's disease. Mari says, "After testing, I am convinced that that is not correct. He has made significant improvement after I added a high volume of fish oils (9 grams of Omega 3) to his supplements, but probably even more important, a low carb diet. Does anyone have any other suggestions for me to try?"

And a member named Hoss does have a suggestion, based on his own experience: "In my case, mercury toxicity caused the problem. While there may be other contributing factors (in my case), the fact that chelation therapy improved my ability to access memory is significant."

Another thread, titled "Glutathione and Alzheimer's" discusses different types of chelation methods; something that a member named Leppert believes is useful. She writes: "I've found that having my silver amalgams removed and chelation therapy following the four dentist visits helped as much as anything else. It took several months to realize what a difference it had made." Leppert also recommends using fish oils and ginkgo biloba.

If you've had success with a natural therapy that improved your memory, log on to our web site at www.hsibaltimore.com and tell
us about it. And for those who may be interested in trying
ginkgo biloba, see the e-Alert "Unring the Bell" (12/8/03) for
some important information on a recent study.

Other topics of interest on the HSI Forum this week include:

  • "Neat trick to get rid of a headache"
  • "flu shot"
  •  "Blood pressure"
  • "Chemotherapy"
  • "Germ Terminator for your toothbrush"

If you're looking for information on any of these or dozens of
other health care topics - or if you'd like to start a
discussion of your own - log on and join in the Forum.

And now…  a moment for a little football, which is exactly
what the Ravens played last week - very little football.
Baltimore's winning streak came to a screeching halt in Oakland during a deeply frustrating game, unless you're an Oakland Raiders fan, of course. To make matters worse, since Cincinnati kept the 49ers in check, the Ravens gave up their division lead.

(They didn't lose it… they gave it up.) This Sunday the Ravens travel to Cleveland to face the Browns, which is always an emotional game considering the history of the two franchises.

And even though the Browns lost a heartbreaker to Denver last week, they're ready to play the role of spoiler against the
Ravens - especially during what is Art Modell's last season in football. Whatever magic the Ravens captured in late November, they lost it in Oakland. Here's hoping they get it back this week in Cleveland. If not, they'll probably be watching the playoffs the same way I will - in front of a television.
