This week in the Health Sciences Institute e-Alert
Here's a remedy for toenail fungus that's hard to resist: "The best
treatment for foot-fungus is a vacation in a warm place where you
can walk barefoot in the sand at the beach!! The sand, the iodine,
the saltwater and the heat of the sun does wonders for your feet." Sign me up! That tip comes from an HSI member named Lisa in an
HSI Forum thread she started titled "toenailfungus." Lisa
recognizes that not all of us can easily manage a week in Cancun
to address toenail fungus, so she also offers this alternate
treatment: "A daily warm foot-bath with a handful of seasalt will
help a lot! (It's actually a well known remedy in Egypt.) It doesn't
only take away the fungus, all bad odours disappear, your
socks/shoes don't smell and it seems to help against perspiration
too. Try this for a week and watch the difference!"
Contrary to Lisa's original suggestion, a member named Terri -
who says she's had "terrible toenail fungus infection since forever"
- had a bad flare up after a Jamaica vacation: "The fungus went
nuts and the nails 'powdered' and started flaking off at an alarming
rate. At that point I thought about essential oils and made up a
remedy and then passed it by my fabulous local herbalist, Roger. I
have been applying it daily that long now and one big toenail is
free of fungus, the other is well on its way, and I have some
success with all the rest. Here is the recipe: Neem, thyme, clove,
pine bark extract, eucalyptus, oil of oregano, Arq-e-hyat (a
camphorated oil), tea tree, DMSO, calendula, Castor Oil, Jojoba
(Oils to dilute and aid penetration)."
Terri is on the right track with DMSO, which could be the key to
making those other ingredients effective. DMSO is a natural
solvent that helps the anti-fungal oils penetrate the nail. Oregano
oil is a particularly effective anti-fungal, but it's very strong and
may need to be diluted with a little olive oil to prevent irritating the
surrounding skin.
A member who goes by the initials PKL came up with this clever
way to apply oregano oil: "I totally cured my toenail fungus (only
had it on one toe, thank goodness) by putting oil of oregano on a
cottonball and taping it to that nail at bedtime. It only took a month
for the discoloration to be gone and a healthy nail growing back."
And a member named Jill offers a suggestion along with a
warning: "Try vicks vapor rub or tea tree oil. Don't take any of
those prescriptions from doctors they damage your liver."
Jill is absolutely right. Liver damage is such a typical side effect of
some toenail fungus drugs that patients are advised to have their
liver function regularly tested during the medication period. Other
possible side effects include headaches, nausea, rashes and even
blood disorders.
Some of the advertisements for these medications would have you
believe that toenail fungus can only be treated with prescription
drugs. As Jill, PKL, Terri, Lisa and many others will tell you,
that's simply not true.

I Used to Be Ashamed of What
My Wife Was Doing for a Living
But everything changed after she made $111,240 from her
"microbusiness".
Microbusinesses can give you immediate income -- not a fortune,
but a solid, extra cash stream -- plus, they can be accumulated,
one after the other, so that one day they may be worth more than
everything else you have put together.

RAVEN MAD
It's never easy when your beloved football team loses a game. But
after watching the Ravens lose to the Eagles on Sunday, I was
honestly proud. Kyle Boller had his best day as a QB, putting up
223 yards (four more than McNabb) and a touchdown. And
coming inches from pulling off a last-minute upset. Technically, he
threw one interception but it was a Hail Mary pass at the end of the
half with everyone waiting in the end zone for it.
Our receivers had a much better day than usual - with Travis
Taylor holding on to his catches and rookie Clarence Moore
making an amazing grab for a 51-yard completion.
And the defense did its job. It didn't score, but it allowed only one
touchdown and kept Philly out of the endzone the rest of the day.
In fact, they held Philly to fewer points than anyone else so far.
And that was all without our center, star running back, Pro Bowl
tight end, and the biggest offensive lineman in the NFL (also a Pro
Bowler, by the way).
So if we had to go home with an L, I'll take one where we showed
talent, heart and drive.
But we can't afford many more L's. After Pittsburgh dominated
New England on Sunday (ending the Patriots' 21-game winning
streak), they are solidly in first place in the division. The Ravens
need to make up that two-game gap so we can bring the AFC
North title home two years in a row.
This Sunday will be a grudge match extraordinaire in Baltimore.
Cleveland is headed to town for the ESPN night game. The
Browns embarrassed the Ravens on opening day, following two
games last year in which the Browns were man-handled by our star
running back and our O-line. So embarrassment is becoming a real
theme when these teams meet.
Happily, Jamal Lewis will be off suspension and ready to run
again. We may even see Todd Heap if his ankle is ready. And Kyle
Boller is coming off the kind of game that will give him enough
confidence to lead the team to victory.
Tune in on Sunday night to see the Ravens debut their new "Pitch
Black" uniforms. Hopefully, the lights will go out on Cleveland.

REVERSE PROSTATE CANCER AND PREVENT PROSTATE PROBLEMS!
Until now modern medicine has been looking in all the wrong
places to reverse prostate cancer and prevent prostate
problems! There is good news though, in spite of the fact
that
* Every 15 minutes another man will die from prostate cancer
* Every 3 minutes a case of prostate cancer is diagnosed in
the U.S.
* 90% of American men will have some sort of prostate
deterioration by the age of 60
there's an all-natural prostate program that can reduce
your chances of ever hearing 'you've got prostate cancer.' To
