The mainstream always wants it both ways.

Over at the FDA - the citadel of the medical mainstream - they're saying that dietary supplements should be regulated as drugs. (If you haven't heard the about the FDA's most recent attempt to impose harsh new regulations on dietary supplements, I urge you to read about it in the e-Alert "This Is It" (4/16/07) at this link: http://www.hsibaltimore.com/ealerts/ea200303/ea20030310.html)

Meanwhile, the mainstream media continues to portray supplements as nearly useless.

Here's an amazing quote from a CNN report published last week: "Studies have found virtually no evidence supplements improve health."

Okay. If there's no evidence that supplements improve health, then why in the world should they be regulated as drugs!?

Of course, the complete dishonesty of that claim is astounding. As an e-Alert reader, you've seen the results of many studies that demonstrate the usefulness of supplement intake.

For instance, you would search far and wide before you found a pediatrician who would not urge an expectant mother to take folic acid supplements to help prevent birth defects. In fact, the USDA requires all bread products to be fortified with folic acid in order to control the rate of birth defects. Does anyone imagine this would be the case if there were "virtually no evidence" that a folic acid supplement helps insure the health of a newborn?

But then one of the advantages of being in the mainstream is that if you want it both ways, you'll probably get it both ways. Of course, you'll have to completely toss out logic and common sense.
