Another health tip that's an outrage
I finished up yesterday's e-Alert with an outrage that also qualified as a health tip, and today I'll do the same. Just imagine how many middle-aged people - especially postmenopausal women - who take antidepressant drugs and/or proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs), such as Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid for heartburn. Now imagine how many of those patients are completely unaware that PPIs and certain antidepressants (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors - SSRIs) such as Prozac may be contributing to bone loss. There's a whole generation of women out there, trusting their doctors, trusting their drugs, while their bones are slowly deteriorating, day by day. Given that there are effective non-drug treatments for both depression and heartburn, this is an outrage.
