Wearable Vitamins (no kidding)

Have you worn your vitamin C today?

If you don't like to take your vitamin supplements in pill, capsule, gel cap, liquid, or powered form, you could always put on a shirt.

Tehama Inc. - a golf apparel company in Denver - has introduced a Green Collection of shirts infused with pro-vitamin substances that interact with the skin to create vitamin C, which is then absorbed by the skin.

Don't check the calendar. It's not April 1st.

According to Tehama representatives, their Green "C" shirts also provide "natural hydration" to help keep skin from drying. The shirts sell for about $70 each and the vitamin boost supposedly keeps delivering through at least 10 washings. Vitamin E, B6, and B12 shirts are also in the works.

Apparently a multivitamin shirt is still a long way off.

If this strikes you as a bit nutty, you might be surprised to learn that vitamin-infused fabrics have been in development for many years in Germany, Japan, and Australia. In fact, a vitamin C shirt developed by a Western Australia company (Abi and Joseph), also delivers essential oils to nourish the skin and provide SPF 50 protection from UV rays.

Exactly how much vitamin C a wearer of these shirts might actually absorb is unknown. But if the shirts are ever proven to deliver a reliable dose, brace yourself - the Lipitor shirt won't be far behind.
